The brief was simple; to restore the life and soul of a run down suburban boozer and infuse a sense of Deep South Louisiana styling to compliment their soul food offering.
The challenge was to set this pub apart from other established pubs in the area without trying too hard, letting the little details take the stage, but maximising the space available without comprimising the loose Louisiana come French styling we were following.
Bespoke, designed and one off light pieces take the former derelict boxing ring from a disused space to a well loved, much used function room with its very own bar, which doubles up as a dining area and live music venue at the weekend providing The Church a much needed after dark vibe for the locals.
The Church is a pub with a heart. Every detail of the interior and exterior was carefully planned giving the staff a place of work to be passionate about, and the customers to love. It is a venue you don’t just visit, you live it, love it and go back again and again.
The guys at Newman Gauge Design just really got us, what we’re about, what we wanted to do and were as passionate about the pub just as much as we were.
Their ideas for the pub were exactly what we had envisaged and more. From the colour scheme to the individually designed wallpaper to the one off light pieces, Their years of experience in the pub trade really shone through. Their knowledge of how best to utilise a space is what really won us over. The ever so popular and often packed out back room was all down to Newman Gauge and the roof terrace too. The two much needed and well loved spaces are key to The Church and The Sunday Times recently rated our Roof Terrace as one of their best!
