We share our insights on what makes a bar or hotel popular, what furnishings are in trend and more importantly how clever design maximises space, increases service offering and more importantly how to drive a return on investment.

Having worked with The Little Britain Pub Company on two previous projects, The Blue Bell Inn and The Crown Inn, we were thrilled when they contacted us to design their fifth location, The Langtons Arms pub near Market Harborough.

The Little Britain Pub Company’s small portfolio of country pubs is characterized as being warm and welcoming to all including pets (they don’t mind muddy boots or muddy dogs!). Each pub however is designed to be different with them each having their own identity and quirky features. The hope for The Little Britain Pub Company is that each pub is seen as “the heart of the village”.

The Langtons Arms itself was purchased a few years ago and we began work approximately one year ago with work to commence on site in October 2017. The space is quite open plan compared to the previous locations and a large outdoor space is available.

Using the pub as the heart of the village idea, the bar area was designed to resemble a warm and homey country kitchen (the traditional heart of the home). A wood burner fire in the style of a kitchen stove will be installed and kitchen detailing will be added, such as copper pots and pans hanging above the bar.

One of the requests of the client was that the pub be made more female friendly. To accomplish this, softer fabrics and florals were incorporated as well as chandeliers and the seating areas were spread out.

The design of the inside is intended to flow into that of the outdoor space where the pub has a covered terrace area, which allows for “outdoor” dining all year round. Additionally, a small dining area in the style of a potting shed, with brick floors, plotted plants, greenhouse style windows and a long wooden table, creates a quirky private dining area.

A vast garden is designed to be a little oasis with a magical fantasy feel that visitors will want to explore. The addition of swings and hammocks adds to the charm and makes the space more child-friendly, with raised shed stages also to be included, which will allow for live music performances in the warmer months.
